After I ate my super yummy chocolate mousse for breakfast, I decided that I am ready. I have tried enough recipes and have enough ingredients and the only thing holding me back was me. I was going to wait till after Mother's Day because I wanted to eat the special dinner my sister is making and chocolate cake! But then I thought that if I have to wait, then why am I doing this? This journey is for real and I want it more than I want croissants and chocolate cake! I am experiencing some sugar withdrawals and have become very emotional (similar to PMS). But I am strong and know I can power through!
I first heard about the ketogenic diet from a good friend. She told me she was pre-diabetic and her doctor recommended this diet for her. I went home and looked it up. When I read that it was no grains and no sugar, I laughed and thought, "Never in a million years!!!". I would rather be fat and happy than be restricted to the foods that I can eat. Over the next few days I was more aware of what I was eating and how often. I am hyperglycemic and need to eat every few hours or else I start to shake, which means, I am addicted to sugar. I watched an episode of Call of the Midwife where an alcoholic woman realizes that she can't stop drinking and sorrowfully looks at a bottle of wine, and then drinks it anyway. I related to her sorrow. I know eating chocolate is no good for me, but I can't stop! I eat it and it tastes great, then right afterwards I feel guilty. It was then that I decided that I need to try the Ketogenic way of eating. Not for a week, or a month, but for a year. I know that I am strong enough to push through the sugar withdrawals and cravings. I need to get my body back on track instead of this gradual gaining and gaining. I've tried several diets in the past including, 21 day fix, low-carb/low-fat, going vegan for a month, and only eating raw fruits and veggies for a week. I've never tried high fat/low-carb. I've always had the mindset of eat fat= get fat. If this is not true, then why does everyone want to eat low-fat foods? I am excited to see what a high fat diet does to me! When I found out that a basic keto meal is bacon and eggs, I was in! I went to Doc and talked to him about going on a keto diet. He ordered blood tests to make sure I was good to go. I can't wait to compare the results in 1 year!
Has it only been 4 months? It feels like much longer! I cheated a few times this month, haven't worked out much and still lost 9 pounds...
